CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) – Nevada Legislators have introduced a bill that would aim to tackle AI-generated child pornography.

Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro, Assemblymember Joe Dalia and Assemblymember Melissa Hardy introduced the bill on Monday.

The bill would expand the definition of child pornography to include sexually explicit computer-generated images of actual minors, or the creation of such images where the subject is indistinguishable from a minor.

“The rapid growth of AI presents new and complex challenges for keeping kids safe online, and it is our responsibility as legislators to update our laws accordingly,” said Cannizzaro. “Having consulted with Attorney General Ford and local law enforcement agencies, I believe this legislation will give law enforcement better tools to investigate and prosecute people who use AI technology to create pornographic and sexually exploitative materials involving children.”

“The fight against AI-generated child exploitation isn’t just about technology—it’s about protecting the innocence and safety of our children,” said Dalia. “I am committed to protecting our families and children against the evolving use of AI exploitation of minors and ensuring we take on bad actors who distribute child AI Porn.”

“This bill will protect our children and grandchildren from predators who use AI to make sexual material. This is a growing problem around the world. Just last week, 25 people in Europe were arrested for generating AI child pornography and distributing it online,” said Hardy. “We must take bipartisan action now to make this a crime in Nevada. We must do all we can to keep our children safe.”
