LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KOLO) – A Nevada man has been sentenced to 26 years in prison after a jury found he committed armed robbery against a pair of jewelry stores and assaulted a federal officer.
Wyatt Scott Peterson will serve three years of parole after his release.
The court found that on Dec. 12, 2016, Peterson entered the EZ Pawn in Las Vegas and demanded the keys to the jewelry case. During the robbery, Peterson brandished a 9mm handgun, which was fired into a display case, according to the DOJ.
Peterson stole at least $40,000 and left.
Then, on Dec. 21, 2016, Peterson entered the Super Pawn in Las Vegas and demanded the keys to the jewelry case. He stole 29 rings, three pairs of earrings, and five bracelets worth a combined $20,000 and left the store.
Peterson has prior felony convictions, including for identity theft in Colville, Washington, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell in Spokane, Washington, and attempting to carry a concealed firearm or other deadly weapon in Clark County.
He was arrested and charged with armed robbery in December 2016. During his detentions, Peterson confronted a detention officer at the stairwell and began punching them.
He would plead guilty to one count each of commerce by robbery, possession of a firearm and in relation to a crime of violence, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and assault on a federal officer.
