CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) – The Nevada Secretary of State’s Office has announced a new Tribal Liaison.

Margaret Scharmann, Yaqui and Hopi, joins the office, Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar announced on Friday.

“From voting access to economic development and consumer protection, we’re committed to strengthening our relationships with Nevada’s Tribal Nations and making information and resources more accessible,” said Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar. “Margaret’s already hit the ground running, reaching out across communities ahead of the midterm election earlier this week, and I’m excited to see how the team grows with her leadership.”

Aguilar described Scharmann’s role as “building relationships, listening to community needs and helping families navigate public services.”

She previously served as the Students in Transition Coordinator for the Churchill County School District where she helped homeless students and families.

She also co-led the district’s Title IV Indian Education program and worked alongside Native students, families and the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe’s Community Learning Center.

“My hope is to build relationships where community members feel comfortable asking questions, sharing concerns, and knowing that they will be heard. That starts with listening to Tribal communities, respecting their priorities, and following through. I’m excited to bring that commitment to the Secretary of State’s Office,” said Scharmann.
