LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Nevada recorded 230 traffic fatalities from January through August 2026, an 11.88% decrease from the 261 fatalities recorded during the same period in 2025, according to a report released by the Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety.
The report, dated Sept. 8, 2026, also shows 218 fatal crashes occurred statewide during the reporting period, an 11.02% decrease from the 245 fatal crashes recorded in the same period last year.

Monthly breakdown
The report shows fatalities decreased in five of the eight months compared with 2025:
- January: 29 fatalities, down 25.64% from 39
- February: 25 fatalities, down 21.88% from 32
- March: 24 fatalities, down 17.24% from 29
- April: 30 fatalities, down 21.05% from 38
- May: 32 fatalities, up 14.29% from 28
- June: 28 fatalities, down 17.65% from 34
- July: 33 fatalities, up 10% from 30
- August: 29 fatalities, down 6.45% from 31
County data
Clark County recorded 127 fatalities during the reporting period, down 24.85% from 169 in 2025. Washoe County recorded 31 fatalities, down 26.19% from 42.
Several counties recorded increases in fatalities. Nye County recorded 13 fatalities, up from three in 2025. Lyon County recorded 16 fatalities, up from six. Douglas County recorded four fatalities, up from one. Churchill County recorded eight fatalities, up from three. Elko County recorded 13 fatalities, up from seven. Lander County recorded four fatalities, up from one.
White Pine County recorded one fatality, down from six in 2025. Pershing County recorded one fatality, down from four. Lincoln County recorded no fatalities, down from one.
Vulnerable road users
The report shows 63 pedestrian fatalities statewide during the reporting period, down 3.08% from 65 in 2025. Motorcyclist fatalities totaled 53, down 13.11% from 61. Bicyclist fatalities totaled five, down from 11. Fatalities involving scooters, mopeds, and ATVs totaled five, up from two.
Unrestrained vehicle occupant fatalities totaled 40 statewide, down 13.04% from 46 in 2025.
Historical data
The report includes 10-year statewide fatality totals. Nevada recorded 420 fatalities in 2024 and 380 in 2025, according to the report. The 10-year average is 361.3 fatalities per year. The fatality rate per 100,000 population was 12.85 in 2024 and 11.58 in 2025, according to the report.
The report notes 2025 data is preliminary and will not be final until a Fatality Analysis Reporting System release in 2027. 2026 data will not be final until a 2028 FARS release.
