LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Nevada recorded 26 traffic fatalities in 26 crashes during January 2026, a 33% decrease from the 39 deaths reported in January 2025, according to the Nevada Department of Public Safety’s monthly fatal report.
The state also saw a 32% decrease in fatal crashes, dropping from 38 crashes in January 2025 to 26 crashes in January 2026.
Clark County accounted for the majority of fatalities with 20 deaths in 20 crashes, down 23% from 26 deaths in 25 crashes during the same period in 2025. The county also saw a significant decrease in unrestrained vehicle occupant deaths, dropping from five in 2025 to one in 2026.
Washoe County experienced the largest percentage decrease, with fatalities dropping 83% from six deaths in 2025 to one death in 2026. The county recorded one fatal crash compared to six in the previous year.
Nye County saw an increase, recording two fatalities in two crashes compared to zero in January 2025. Humboldt County also recorded one fatality compared to none in 2025.
Several counties that recorded fatalities in January 2025 had none in 2026, including Elko, Pershing, Storey and Eureka counties.
Pedestrian fatalities decreased 20% statewide, dropping from 10 deaths in January 2025 to eight in January 2026. Clark County recorded seven pedestrian deaths compared to nine in 2025.
Motorcycle fatalities increased 29% statewide, rising from seven deaths in 2025 to nine in 2026. All nine motorcycle fatalities occurred in Clark County.
Bicycle fatalities remained steady with one death recorded in both January 2025 and January 2026. The state recorded one death involving other vehicles such as scooters, mopeds or ATVs compared to none in 2025.
The 10-year average for annual fatalities stands at 356 deaths. Nevada’s highest recent fatality count was 420 in 2024, while the lowest was 304 in 2019.
