LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – NV Energy and the City of Las Vegas hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new solar park in east Las Vegas on Tuesday.

The solar park, which is being described as a “community-based resource,” is located at Gary Reese Freedom Park. It will support NV Energy’s Expanded Solar Access Program, which helps both businesses and residents to receive solar energy from a utility-scale resource, as opposed to private solar panels.

Low-income customers are “guaranteed” a lower rate when participating in solar energy, as opposed to the standard rate, according to NV Energy.

In addition, new covered parking was unveiled for the park, with solar panels mounted on top. According to NV Energy, “This will provide shade for those enjoying the services at the park and also provides more renewable energy to NV Energy’s grid.”
