LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — An off-duty Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department corrections officer was shot Monday night near the intersection of Cheyenne and Buffalo.
The shooting happened just before 9 p.m. First responders and Metro police surrounded the person who witnesses say was shot. The injured corrections officer was then taken away and went into surgery Monday night.
Witness describes scene
A witness said the shooting happened in a parking lot of several businesses. He said he heard several gunshots and then saw a man in dark clothing with a gun in his hand. The witness said it appeared the man had a towel wrapped around his wrist.
The witness said the man with the gun walked across the parking lot and got on the back of a motorcycle with another person, and the two left the area.
The witness estimated the two men were in their 30s. They were not wearing helmets, but he could not see their faces. He said both men were wearing the same dark colored T-shirt with the same writing on the back, but he could not make out what it said.
Resident reacts
Resident Sam Wallace says he visits the businesses often.
“I’m just shocked because it’s close to home now,” Wallace said.
“I never hear no shootings, I never hear no commotion. I don’t even see nobody fighting over here. It’s pretty crazy that it’s going on right here,” Wallace said.
No arrests reported
As of Monday night, no one had been reported caught in connection with the shooting. Police have been asked about the two men on the motorcycle, and FOX5 is waiting to hear back.
