LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – As many NFL fans gear up for the divisional round, Las Vegas Raiders fans are keeping tabs on the search for a new head coach and a new general manager.
Things have started to pick up for the Raiders as the work to find the people who will oversee the football future of this franchise is in full swing.
The Raiders have finished the interview process for the general manager position. Interim GM Champ Kelly was the last to go, and it’s expected that Mark Davis will have a decision on that hire very soon.
But the head coach process is gathering steam. Davis and his advisors have done a lot of the background work on potential candidates, and the interview process will begin on Tuesday when former Vikings head coach and Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier will get first crack at meeting with the Silver and Black. Keep in mind that even if Frazier doesn’t get the head coaching job, he would be a prime candidate for defensive coordinator should Patrick Graham not return.
Jim Harbaugh met with the Chargers on Monday, but it’s not when, or if, he will meet with the Raiders.
And what about interim head coach Antonio Pierce? He interviewed remotely with the Tennessee Titans and will also interview with the Atlanta Falcons, on top of an interview with the Raiders, which should come in the next few days. Pierce is still considered the front runner and continues to have the players push for him.
Maxx Crosby said on his podcast over the weekend that he could consider asking to be traded if the team doesn’t hire Pierce.
“I want to be a Raider for sure, but if we go in a different direction, there is nothing that is off the table. We already have pieces in place and a lot of talent and we can build on that. We can’t start from ground zero again. What are we doing? It’s my fifth year and if we were to go with another coach it would be my fifth coach in five years. I’m sick of this (expletive). I know everyone else is sick of this (expletive). I’ve been through it all and I’m sick of losing,” said Crosby.
The drama will continue all week, and FOX5 will bring it to you as it unfolds.
