LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Raiders tight end Brock Bowers took part in a golf clinic this afternoon, helping to grow youth golf.

Bowers assisted with Bank of America’s “Golf with Us Program” at Las Vegas Golf Club in an effort to provide youth golfers access to tee times for $5 or less at participating golf courses around the state. The program provides free one-year memberships to the Youth on Course program, which had nearly 100,000 participants nationwide last year, many being first-time golfers. The program hopes to attract up to 150,000 participants this year.

Bowers said he loves the opportunity to give back to youth sports.

“I feel like my whole life’s been based around sports and being able to pass it on to the next generation and get them involved in sports because that’s how my whole life has been, meeting friends through sports, so it’s good,” Bowers said.

Al Welch, president of Bank of America Las Vegas, said the program is about providing access and affordability to kids who have never had the opportunity to play golf.

“This whole program is about providing access and affordability to kids who have never had the opportunity to play golf and trying to make golf cool too with somebody that the kids look up to like that and they know the name,” Welch said. “It’s outstanding that he’s involved with us.”

Last year, Golf with Us had 400 participants from Las Vegas and 31 golf courses took part.
