LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A 3½-year-old spider monkey named Eris is helping draw attention to a new nonprofit with a mission to support veterans and their animals.
Eris is the face of A Monkey’s Uncle, founded by Allen Sarac. Sarac says the rescued monkey is playful, teething and has a great memory.
The nonprofit aims to provide care and shelter for pets while their owners—particularly veterans and people experiencing homelessness—get medical care. Sarac says some people avoid seeing a doctor when they have no safe place for their animals.
“There’s a lot of veterans, a lot of people, even not veterans, People that are unhoused, that have dogs, who can’t see a doctor. So we want to make sure that if the person or the vet is being seen by a doctor, their animal is taken care of at the same time. A lot of them won’t see a doctor when they don’t have a place for their pets.”
A Monkey’s Uncle is just getting started, but Sarac hopes Eris’s second chance can help create new opportunities for veterans and their pets.
