LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada says routes will operate on a Saturday schedule for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
Additionally, road closures in place for the annual MLK Day parade will result in transit detours in downtown Las Vegas from approximately 6 a.m. until 4 p.m.
“The RTC is thrilled to once again participate in the annual parade that celebrates our community’s diversity,” said RTC CEO M.J. Maynard. “We are honored to commemorate Dr. King’s life and celebrate his achievements in equity and inclusion as we work to provide safe and equitable transportation options for all Southern Nevadans.”
RTC says its participating in the parade with the theme, ““Living the Dream – Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future.”
During the parade, the RTC says it will showcase its RTC Bike Share electric bikes, and a bus wrapped with the image of Rosa Parks, who became one of the most important historic figures in our nation’s fight for equality and desegregation when she rejected a bus driver’s order to surrender her seat.
The RTC first unveiled the bus wrapped with Parks’ image last year to commemorate Parks’ 111th birthday and mark Transit Equity Day.
Those attending the parade can avoid traffic and parking fees by using RTC transit. Riders can plan their transit trip using the free rideRTC app. Complete details on fare options can be found on the RTC website.
Transit passengers are urged to visit the RTC website for detour information.
