LOCKWOOD, Nev. (KOLO) – Update at 5:30 p.m.: The Washoe County Sheriff’s office is giving more details on the search for walk-away inmate Chase Orput.
Sheriff Darin Balaam tells us that Orput jumped out of the vehicle while the inmate work crew was leaving the landfill. He then reportedly proceeded to run southwest, along Canyon Road. That’s the area that the Washoe County and Storey County Sheriff’s Office are now searching. The agencies have deployed helicopters, K9s, drones, and patrol units in the effort.
Update at 2:15 p.m.: The escaped inmate who triggered a shelter in place order for Lockwood has been identified.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office says 23-year-old Chase Orput walked away from an inmate work crew at the Lockwood Landfill.
Orput was last seen at around 1:30 p.m. Monday heading west from the area of Saddle Court and East Mustang Road.
Orput is described as a white male around six feet tall, around 185 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a black and white striped inmate shirt and pants.
Orput is currently serving a 90-day sentence for misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to show or maintain proof of insurance.

Original Article: The Storey County Sheriff’s Office has put Lockwood on a shelter in place order.
The order was issued at around 2:00 p.m. Monday after police say an inmate from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office walked away from a work site.
Police ask residents to remain in place until further notice.
