LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – U.S Senator Jacky Rosen (D-Nevada) on Monday voiced her support of the bipartisan Senate border security deal, and called for quick passage.
Senator Rosen visited the southern border in January. She says she saw firsthand just how much reform is needed to restore order.
“This new bipartisan compromise would finally take action to restore order at our southern border and help establish a safe, orderly, and humane process for asylum claims. Washington needs to stop playing games, put politics aside, and work together across the aisle to pass this critically needed border security legislation,” said the Senator.
Rosen says the border security package makes historic security investments, including funding new security and screening technology, hiring more Border Patrol agents, and increasing resources for Customs and Border Protection officers. It also calls for sanctions against the cartels blamed for the fentanyl crisis and declares fentanyl a national emergency, which opens up the opportunity for more federal support.
The bill also creates more family and employment-based visas to help address the backlog, and it bolsters the asylum screening process. In addition, it provides free legal counsel to unaccompanied minors younger than 13.
The package also includes support for Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan, with humanitarian aid for civilians in Gaza.
