LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A student has been arrested for making a fake report of an active shooter inside Canyon Springs High School on Friday morning.

According to the North Las Vegas Police Department, dispatchers received a text to 911 report around 9:30 a.m. that there was an armed student inside Canyon Springs High School. A lockdown was quickly initiated as NLVPD and Clark County School District Police Department responded.

Officers searched the school and determined there were no victims and the report was not credible. Officers lifted the lockdown shortly after, and administrators say the school day will resume as normal.

CCSD is currently assisting parents who still want to remove their students from school as an extra precaution.

Canyon Springs’ Principal Louis Markouzis sent a letter to families and parents, sharing more details about the situation.

NLVPD says the investigation is still ongoing.
