LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Police confirm to FOX5 a tow truck driver and volunteer firefighter was shot and killed in Goldfield, Nevada last week.
According to the Nye County Sheriff’s Office, it reportedly began when Derek Cornell’s truck was rear-ended by the suspect on U.S. 95 in Goldfield.
Both cars pulled over and and at some point the suspect got out with an assault rifle and opened fire.
Cornell was found dead at the scene.
Another person identified by a friend as Cornell’s son arrived after the crash and walked away from the shooting with minor injuries.
Nye County found and arrested the suspect hours later.
A friend created a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses.
Clayton Agner, a friend of victim said, “He was a father of four, a loving husband, he was a devoted firefighter out in Goldfield, along with a 30-year veteran in the towing industry.”
