LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A 17-year-old is dead after being struck while crossing the street in the east Las Vegas valley on Monday night.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the crash occurred at Tree Line Drive and Back Woods Road around 9:21 p.m.

Police determined that a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling southbound on Tree Line Drive at a “high rate of speed.” At the same time, a pedestrian – identified as a 17-year-old male – was crossing Tree Line Drive from east to west outside of a marked crosswalk and was struck by the Chevrolet.

Arriving medical personnel transported the pedestrian to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with “life-threatening injuries,” where he would later die.

Police say the driver of the Chevrolet remained at the scene and was arrested on reckless driving charges.

“The pedestrian’s death marked the 40th traffic-related fatality in the LVMPD’s jurisdiction for the year 2024,” LVMPD noted in a release. “This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD’s Collision Investigation Section.”
