LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A massive global technology outage caused by a software update error has left many travelers trying to leave and fly into Las Vegas without a flight.
“We’re stuck and have to figure out what we have to do,” visitor Saleem Mustafa told FOX5 at Harry Reid Airport early Friday morning after his flight back home to Tulsa, Oklahoma was canceled. “Thankfully, we were able to get another night at the hotel we were staying at.”
“We might make that 18 hour drive and get a rental car,” Mustafa’s friend Travis Davidson said. “We’ll do some shifts. I don’t know. We’ll see.”
One woman flew into Las Vegas from Canada on her first trip without her kids, and was supposed to leave Friday morning.
“We’ve been away for 24 hours,” she said. “We were told by Delta that we wouldn’t be able to fly home until Monday, so that’s three days, and the flight they are offering is 14 hours with 3 layovers. So my kids are crying because we can’t get home to them. We’re going to have to drive, that’s how bad this is.”
CrowdStrike’s CEO and Microsoft have both reported that a fix has been deployed, although several system are still offline. The total number of cancellations in the U.S. has surpassed 2,000.
