LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – August is Child Support Awareness Month, and Clark County is offering a plan to help more families get the financial support they need.
Penalties for not paying include a suspended driver’s license and a bench warrant if non-payers appear in court.
The district attorney for the Family Services Division is using this month to offer parents to get their licenses reinstated and bench warrants quashed at a reduced cost.
“By offering this program, the customer comes into our office, we can work with them to understand the impediment to why they’re not paying child support once we understand that impediment,” said Adam Hughes, a Clark County district attorney with the Family Services Division. “We can help them overcome that.”
The county works with several community providers to help parents find jobs or overcome other barriers to paying. They also provide parent locator help and other services.
