LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – If you see any smoke or hear sirens near Harry Reid International Airport on Thursday, don’t be alarmed!
The Clark County Department of Aviation, which oversees all valley airports, will be hosting its Triennial Emergency Preparedness Exercise from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The Federal Aviation Administration requires airports to complete the exercise every three years to maintain their operating ticket. The drill will also allow airport staff and first responders to test their responses to emergencies involving large-scale aircrafts.
According to an airport spokesperson, the exercise will involve two aircraft, smoke, pyrotechnics, and volunteers to create a realistic scenario. The exercise will also be dynamic to help improve participants’ responses to what’s unfolding around them.
Normal airport operations will not be impacted by the exercise, and flights will continue as usual.
