LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Clark County Division of Air Quality has issued a smoke alert for the remainder of the week.

The smoke from the Southern California wildfires lingering in the Las Vegas Valley has caused elevated levels of dust, smoke, and other substances in the air.

The smoke alert will remain in place from Thursday, Sept. 12, to Friday, Sept. 13

Those with respiratory diseases should know these tiny particles and pollutants can aggravate symptoms.

The DAQ has shared helpful tips for people to limit exposure to smoke.

  • Stay indoors when you see or smell smoke.
  • Keep windows and doors closed.
  • Limit outdoor exertion on days with high levels of fine particles in the air. Exercise makes you breathe heavier and increases the amount of particulates you are likely to inhale.
  • Consider changing your indoor air filters if they are dirty.

Air quality is monitored daily by the organization and shared online with forecast updates.

The Clark County Division created an ‘AirNow’ mobile app for residents to track air quality in the area.
