LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Carter, the 7-year-old boy with a rare skin condition is finally able to rest his eyes after his life changing surgery in San Diego.
FOX5 first introduced you to Carter back in May and since then Carter’s story has captivated hearts all over, with many donating to his medical bills.
Last month, we followed Carter to San Diego as he underwent eye lid and skin graft surgery.
FOX5 went to visit Carter this week to check in on how he was doing.
“He slept until noon today, he got the best night‘s sleep,” Shai Bresee, Carter’s mom said.
Monday night, was Carter’s first night being able to sleep with his eyes closed in his entire life.
“I did not have my eye shields and I got to sleep normal,” Carter said. “I normally try to lay on my back but sometimes it is not comfy.”
Comfort is something Carter has been wanting for a while, and how he’s got it after his successful surgery.
“I couldn’t see on the first day but on the second day I could,” Carter said.
Even though recovery was tough, Carter’s mom said Carter was a champ through it all.
“He was able to play his games and he had the best attitude and didn’t complain about a single thing, even when he was in pain he said mom I think a little bit more medicine,” Bresee said.
Carter will go back to school on Monday, and this surgery is expected to help him for the next 10 years.
However, he will have follow up appointments throughout his life.
