LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Thieves hit John S. Park elementary hard on June 13.

A Clark County School District police officer was called there about a possible copper wire theft. A CCSD police report indicates seven air conditioning units were stripped of all parts, with damage estimated at $75,000.

Then on July 20, while contractors were taking measurements to fix the June damage, a staff member was told that only seven units were damaged, but the number turned out to be nine.

School officials then suspected two more units were damaged recently.

A police report says the staff member looked at security cameras and saw trespassers at the school early that morning. The report says she saw three people, with one of them “walking across the building’s awning.”

The report also said, “items were tossed from the rooftop air conditioning units onto the playground.” Three people were seen collecting the items and wheeling them away in a shopping cart.

Then just six days later, another CCSD police report indicates a custodian heard a loud crash around 5:25 a.m. and saw a male and female near the parking lot and saw “some air conditioning parts on a cart that had fallen over.”

He said while the female was on the phone, she turned around and look at him and both people took off.

On July 30, another theft was reported overnight at John S. Park Elementary with three AC units damaged. A police reports indicates AC parts were found on the ground.

The next day, a CCSD police report indicates an office manager told police, “this was the sixth time that someone had destroyed and stolen parts from their AC units.”

She also said, “the roof can be easily accessed due to the structure of the school being low to the ground.”

In the same report, an officer mentioned extra patrols from 3 a.m. until 6 a.m.

A school office manager estimated damages at $120,000 and told police about similar crimes at some businesses.

Police reports also describe some of the people involved between the ages of 18 and 30.

School officials in one report said it appears the suspects are stealing cooling cores from the AC units.

No suspects were identified in any reports.
