LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Surveillance video shows a group of people walking into a Las Vegas business about a minute before a SUV crashes through the storefront.
This happened Tuesday around 12 p.m. at a Dollar Tree near Tropicana and Pecos.
Metro police say they responded to an accident with injury. It is not clear how many people were injured, and whether it was the driver or someone inside the store.
A mother who was inside the store with her daughter, who decided not to go on camera, says people inside the store hid in the back after hearing a loud crash.
She says she and her daughter are okay, but describes the incident as “traumatic.”
Surveillance video from a nearby business shows people pouring into the store before a white SUV backs through the storefront and then pulls out as quickly as it backs in.
The SUV then parks about a hundred feet away. It is not clear what caused the driver to back into the store, but Metro police say what happened was accidental and no arrests have been made.
“The whole front of the store is essentially gone, its wooden planks covering the whole entire front, it’s pretty crazy,” Lucino’s Pizza Owner Joey Scolaro says. “I’ve seen it before in town, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it to that severity, it’s pretty nuts.”
The front of the store is covered in plywood. On the inside, Christmas decorations and other merchandise are scattered on the ground.
It is not clear when the store will reopen, Dollar Tree has not responded to FOX5’s request for comment.
FOX5 has also requested the full incident report from Metro police.
