PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Two men were arrested after allegedly burglarizing a former MLB player’s Phoenix storage unit and attempting to sell stolen shoes.

Daniel Jacob Thompson, 48, and Michael Charles Hummel, 30, were arrested Friday. It came one day after Phoenix police shared their photos and asked the public for help identifying the two suspects.

Police said the reported theft happened the afternoon of Sept. 27 at a storage facility near 24th Street and Campbell Avenue.

The suspects allegedly broke into the unit and stole high-end purses, MLB player-issued gear, collector’s shoes and several laptops. The items were valued at about $93,000, police said.

After learning the men had tried to sell a pair of the stolen shoes, detectives identified and arrested them, police said. Investigators got a search warrant and recovered evidence, including footwear, clothing with the victim’s name and electronics.

“These arrests underscore the importance of our ongoing partnerships with the community and local businesses,” Phoenix Police said in a written statement. “Their willingness to share information played a key role in helping detectives bring this case to a swift resolution.”
