LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A man is dead after being struck by a semi-truck in the south valley on Monday.
According to Las Vegas Metro Police, the crash occurred on Blue Diamond Road and Valley View Boulevard around 7:36 a.m. An initial investigation determined that a 55-year-old man was riding a Blue Huffy Mountain Bike north on Blue Diamond and entered a marked crosswalk. At the same time, a 2008 Peterbilt 386 tractor-trailer was traveling south and attempting to turn right on a solid red traffic signal.
During the turn, police say the semi ran over the bicyclist.
Arriving medical crews attempted to save the bicyclist, but he was confirmed dead at the scene.
The semi-truck driver remained at the scene and did not show signs of impairment.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
“The bicyclist’s death marked the 150th traffic-related fatality in the LVMPD’s jurisdiction for 2024,” LVMPD noted in a release.
