LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Cybercriminals could impersonate police.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department warned vendors that someone’s sending out fake purchase orders and requests for quotes using its name and logo.
Some red flags: The email will be poorly written with spelling and grammar errors. It will come from a fake email address and feature a phony link.
Bad actors will order a large quantities of items and ask for overnight or priority shipping.
They’ll also want them delivered to an address not associated with Metro and ask for a 30-day credit.
Any phone numbers listed won’t connect to Metro and a live person will not answer them.
Metro says those who receive a purchase order should forward it to the purchasing unit, or call to verify it.
