The promise of a big refund could lure you into a rip-off

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Most of us use Microsoft products in one form or another. Unfortunately, that makes most of us ripe for the latest ripoff.

In this scam, you’ll get an email offering you a full refund on a pricey subscription to a Microsoft product. It’ll look legitimate right down to the logos. It’ll even provide an order number in the text that also looks genuine. The email will direct you to a customer support number, but it, like the rest of the email, is bogus too. It’s all a scheme designed to gain access to your bank accounts and personal information.

Experts warn you to be suspicious of any unsolicited email instructing you to call a specific phone number. Microsoft will never ask you to call about any purchase. If you have a question about a product or service, go directly to the company’s website.

And remember, emails about account problems, security issues, or purchases should always raise a red flag. They could be setting you up for a scam.
