LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Police revealed children as young as six years old died in a crash near Moapa.

Nevada State Police said three vehicles were involved in a crash on Sunday, May 4 on I-15 and mile marker 100 in Clark County. Police said eight people in total, including four small children, were involved. A six and nine-year-old died at the scene.

Police said a suspected DUI driver drove a Chevrolet Silverado with a boat and trailer in tow. He was identified as Steven Woods, 40, of Hurricane, Utah. He drove northbound on I-15 when he rear-ended a Honda Odyssey.

The Odyssey had a family of seven inside. They were stopped along with other traffic due to congestion. The impact of the crash forced the Odyssey into a guardrail, which would hit a nearby Hyundai Tucson with two passengers.

Woods was hospitalized but would be released and booked into the Clark County Detention Center. Police say his next court date is May 21.

“This is an ongoing investigation,” police said.

Nevada State Police also released a safety message. The full statement could be read below.

The Nevada Highway Patrol reminds all drivers: safety starts with smart decisions. Never drive under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any substance that impairs your ability to operate a vehicle. Even a small amount can slow your reaction time and cloud your judgment. Impaired driving endangers everyone on the road—yourself, your passengers, and innocent others.

Don’t take the risk.

Plan ahead with a designated driver, rideshare, or public transportation. And remember—buckle up every time. Seat belts are your best defense in a crash.
