LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Steve Wynn, the visionary developer who reshaped the modern Las Vegas Strip, will return to the spotlight this fall to discuss the creation and lasting legacy of his groundbreaking resort, The Mirage.
The Neon Museum announced it will present “Reflections of The Mirage: A Conversation with Steve Wynn” on Oct. 22. The special program will take place in the showroom at the Golden Nugget Las Vegas, where Wynn first made his mark as a casino executive.

The evening will focus on the pivotal years between 1987 and 1992, examining the conception, construction, and operation of the resort that sparked the megaresort era.
“The Mirage represents a pivotal chapter of modern Las Vegas,” Aaron Berger, CEO of The Neon Museum, said in a statement. ”The conversation will… provide an opportunity for Mr. Wynn to reflect on the concept, construction, opening, and operations of a resort whose influence continues to be felt today.”
Opened in 1989, The Mirage was a revolutionary, Polynesian-themed oasis that challenged the prevailing economics of the gaming industry. It introduced game-changing attractions to the Strip, including Siegfried & Roy’s white tiger show, the first permanent Cirque du Soleil production in Las Vegas, and its famous front-yard volcano.
The historic resort closed its doors in July 2024 to make way for the new Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
Following the closure, The Neon Museum acquired hundreds of artifacts from The Mirage for its permanent collection, including a ceramic sculpture from the Secret Garden, the property’s lagoon sign, and an original Volcano FireShooter, which are currently on display in the Neon Boneyard.
