LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Las Vegas Raiders opened training camp Wednesday at the Intermountain Performance Center, with quarterback Kirk Cousins taking all first-team reps under head coach Klint Kubiak.
Cousins, entering his 15th NFL season and first with the Raiders, said the team was ready to work from the start of the day.
“I was in the locker room at 7:10, practice was at 7:30, and there were two people in the locker room, I was like, ‘Do I need to be somewhere?’” Cousins said. “It’s just so ready to go and ready to work and that’s the way you want it.”

QB room competing together
Fernando Mendoza and Aidan O’Connell rotated with the second-team offense. Cousins said the quarterbacks are not competing against each other, but with each other.
“Always trying to ask good questions, help one another, challenge one another, and raise the standard; have fun competing,” Cousins said. “Competition is fun, have fun doing it together, and I think that’s what it will always be.”
Raiders offensive coordinator Andrew Janocko said the quarterbacks are making each other better.
“Those guys love to compete with each other, they love to meet. You walk into the meeting room, they’re in there just talking ball,” Janocko said. “Kirk talks about things he’s been around, different things he’s seen, and then they bounce ideas off each other. Aidan has played a lot of football too, he has experiences. Those guys are just making each other better every day, holding each other accountable and pushing each other up.”
Cousins on the locker room
Cousins said he likes what he has seen from the roster, while acknowledging it is early in the process.
“I feel great about the locker room. Winning always helps that, but I really like our group, like the guys work ethic, their attitude, their preparation, and I think as a veteran you just enjoy that opportunity you try and help as you can,” Cousins said. “I don’t want to act like I have all the answers, but to help, encouragement, feedback whenever I can see something I like or don’t like to say, ‘Here is what I think,’ try and just helps raise their game too.”
The Raiders return to practice Thursday morning. Raider Nation will have their first chance to see the team practice Sunday, Aug. 2.
