LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A 4-year-old child is hospitalized with critical injuries after Las Vegas police say he was running on a road.

Metro Police said the crash happened at 6:22 p.m. near West Lake Mead and Jones boulevards Wednesday. The driver was a 51-year-old woman identified as Erika Uriarte-Andalon. She drove a 2005 Mitsubishi Endeavor.

Police said she drove westbound on Lake Mead approaching Jeanne Drive in the right of two lanes. Police said the child was alone and running along Jeanne.

A crash happened when the child “darted” into Lake Mead Boulevard and was hit by the right front of the Mitsubishi.

Medical arrived and transported the child to UMC with critical injuries. The driver remained at the scene and was not impaired, police say. She cooperated with the investigation.

“The collision remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section,” police said.
