LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – It has been nearly two weeks since a gunman opened fire inside a Las Vegas Valley gym, killing one employee.

31-year-old Edgar Quinonez worked at the LVAC location on Rainbow and Lake Mead for 15 years. He was killed in the shooting, and at least three others were injured.

FOX5 obtained the 911 calls from several people inside at the time. That includes an employee who stayed with Quinonez until the end.

Metro police say 34-year-old Daniel Ortega walked into the gym with a rifle and fired 24 rounds. Ortega was shot and killed by police outside the front door while trying to run away.

“Someone’s shooting in our gym right now,” one caller said before gunshots were heard.

“We have an active shooter at Las Vegas Athletic Club,” another caller told dispatchers.

The dispatcher asked, “How many shots did you hear?”

“We heard four shots. We need somebody immediately. He’s still there, He’s active! He shot five times already,” one caller detailed to dispatchers.

“Do you see him right now, sir?” the dispatcher asked.

“He already hit people!” they responded.

“This is an emergency. There’s a gentleman in the Las Vegas Athletic Club on Rainbow shooting in the gym.”

Police sources told FOX5 that day, the shooting was not an “active shooter” situation, though 911 callers and initial reports indicated a possible “active shooter.”

Police say there is no connection between Ortega and Quinonez, and they still don’t know why he carried out the attack.
