Victim of interstate rock attack wants answers from Southern Nevada officials

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A victim of a brutal rock-throwing attack is in disbelief that someone would commit such a heinous crime in the valley.

FOX5 spoke to Amy Loafea, a victim in Sunday night’s incident, who says she has so many unanswered questions.

Loafea was taken by ambulance to Sunrise Hospital with multiple injuries from the impact. She showed FOX5 the bruises on her upper body and face, as well as the arm injury she sustained.

“I’m angry, I’m sad. You don’t ask for these things to happen. They just happen to you. I’m hurt,” Loafea said.

Loafea was traveling back to Las Vegas from Phoenix where she spent the weekend with her daughter.

“I thought I was shot by a gun,“ she said. ”There’s blood everywhere, you aren’t thinking.” She pulled over and called 911 when she realized a visible hole in her windshield. “Then I look at the ground, the passenger floor, and there’s a boulder about that big,” she added while using her hands to show the size.

She is seeking more details on who could possibly have done this harm to innocent drivers on the highway.

“I just want more information on the suspect. It would be nice if the person that did this was identified. It would be nice,” she said.

The suspect or suspects got away before police arrived, according to an initial Nevada State Police report.

A FOX5 photojournalist went to the scene Monday and found that the bridge is covered all over in fencing, except for roughly 6-inch areas on the sides by a railing.

“I was so glad that FOX5 brought it to light. The bridge itself. How is somebody able to just physically throw something from that to hurt innocent people driving along on the freeway, like how? Why is that?” Loafea said.

When FOX5 reached out to the Nevada Department of Transportation, a spokesperson directed us to the City of Henderson.

At the time of this reporting, we have still not heard back from Henderson officials.

Nevada State Police public information officer Kim Smith tells FOX5 no arrests have been made as of Tuesday in a rock-throwing attack along I-11 in Henderson.

If someone is brought to justice for this crime, Smith tells us they could face less-serious misdemeanor charges of property damage to felony battery with a deadly weapon. She said the investigation is still ongoing and that will determine what charges are filed.

“Nevada State Police Investigations Division detectives are in contact and communication with the victims of this incident,” Smith said.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
