LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Brazen thieves returned to the home of an 84-year-old Las Vegas Valley woman and hauled off even more antiques and artwork in their second heist.
Late last week, Delilah Jones found her new locks and windows broken at her home off Eastern Avenue and Russell Road. When she searched the house, she found an antique gold-leaf-covered lamp, an Italian angel statue and candelabra, and another painting missing.
FOX5 told you about the first burglary: six paintings were taken out of Delilah Jones’ home. Many were original works of art done by her mother. The thief snuck into her home while she was taking a nap.
“I felt violated for the first time and I lost my security,” Jones said Tuesday to FOX5. “I want them to get punished because you just don’t come into people’s homes,” she said. She has since beefed up surveillance and security measures around her home.
Who would target Jones’ home?
Home renovations have been ongoing for months, and Jones suspects a contractor could be behind it– or a worker possibly told a thief about the valuables inside.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police couldn’t give FOX5 details about the investigation, but say that detectives work closely with pawn shops to flag stolen items.
“I wouldn’t even know how to value them. You can’t put a price on sentimental things,” Jones said.
“They rob you blind, and then they sell it for probably peanuts. Who knows? It’s a shame,” she said.
Jones has alerted art auctioneers, pawn shops and social media of the theft, urging people to be on the lookout for the works of art or any people trying to sell them.
