LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Over 400 Mt. Charleston residents are without power on Tuesday morning as a winter storm descends on the area.
According to NV Energy, crews are working to restore power to 462 customers and assess damage as snow continues to fall.
As of midnight, Lee Canyon has received 18 inches of snow, Rainbow Canyon has received 24 inches of snow, and Lovell Summit has had 12 inches of snow. A winter storm warning is currently in place for the area and remains effective until 10 p.m. on Tuesday.
Officials warn that danger of avalanches remains in the area. This comes after an avalanche was reported in Lee Canyon on Monday afternoon, and four people were initially reported missing. Las Vegas police confirmed that everyone had been located safely.
NV Energy crews are currently working to set up generators as quickly and safely as possible to provide power at the Retreat at Charleston Peak, to set up a warming center.
Power is estimated to be restored around 4 p.m., and more information will be provided at that time.
