LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Families in North Las Vegas said their dream celebrations hit a sudden halt when Magic Castle Banquet Hall closed their doors.

“You’re taking those memories away from my daughter, a daughter who’s not going to get anything back,” said Lynette Gaitan.

The property manager of Magic Castle tells FOX5 the owners of the event center were notified they were being evicted for non-payment on July 15, but many parents say they weren’t told.

“There was no notifications, no call, not an e-mail, not even a text, nothing from her,” said Gaitan.

It was supposed to be Gaitan’s daughter Kalea’s sweet 16 next February, she had already paid the venue more than $4,000. She fears she won’t see the money again.

“You knew what you were doing with all these clients that were coming in and out, either signing new contracts, making payments to you, you knew what you were doing,” she said.

A neighboring business employee told FOX5 he saw the owners of Magic Castle moving all of their stuff out back in June, before the eviction date.

For single mother Sonia Lemus, that news was devastating. She said she saved for years to celebrate her daughters Quinceañera. She booked the event center for September – just two months from now, leaving her with little to no options.

“We need her to respond to us and show her face and give us our money back because that’s money we were counting on for that date,” Lemus said in Spanish.

Lemus paid $5,000 to Magic Castle, she received $500 back and a letter in the mail saying she would get her money back in payments – something Lemus said isn’t fair.

“I need that money now because I need that to be able to pay for another salon,” she said.

Both mothers said the empty building now represents memories they’ll never get back.

FOX5 reached out to the owner of Magic Castle Banquet Hall, they said due to medical issues they had to close, but clients will receive a refund in installments. Additionally, we asked them when they moved their stuff out, and when was the last time they took a contract on. So far we have not received a response.
