LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Las Vegas woman is facing a federal drug charge after prosecutors say she tried to fly with suitcases containing nearly 50 pounds of methamphetamine.
According to federal prosecutors, Tamya Norwood checked two suitcases at Harry Reid International Airport on July 1. During routine screening, Transportation Security Administration officers reported finding packages hidden inside the luggage.
Those packages allegedly contained nearly 50 pounds of methamphetamine.

Norwood is charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. A jury trial is scheduled for Dec. 14 before U.S. District Judge Richard Boulware.
If she is convicted, Norwood faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison and up to life. Prosecutors said she is presumed innocent unless and until she is proven guilty in court.
