LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — There are many benefits of walking, and what better way to get your steps in than to do it with a group.
A North Las Vegas woman’s call out on social media has now led to a massive turnout for women of all ages with one goal: to walk.
“I wanted to start this in April and I was hesitant because it was getting a little hot. I didn’t think people would be interested,” Jadae Franks, founder of North Las Vegas Walking Club said.
Frank’s said her first call out on social media was for a July 12th walk and 65 women showed up.
Through social media is how FOX5 learned of the group so our Victoria Saha laced up and joined them for a 7 a.m. walk at Craig Ranch Park on a Saturday.
“There’s been a huge turnout each week we are just growing as the time goes on,” Franks said.
Those who walked behind Franks, are also grateful for the group.
“People put North Las Vegas in a box that we don’t have anything I’m so glad these women decided to come up with a walking club because we needed this,” Jazmine Perryman said.
Others like Stephanie Allen hoped to find more women who have the same health and wellness goals.
“I’ve been here about two months and I’m just looking to focus on health and wellness and just being around a group of women who are focused on what I’m focused on,” Allen said.
As for Franks, every step of every walk leads to more women joining.
At their August 23rd walk, there was 130 participants.
The walks are usually on the weekends.
The next walk is September 6th at Craig Ranch Park at 6:45 am open to women only. However, pets and children are allowed.
