LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A woman is fighting for her life after a hit-and-run crash in south Las Vegas on Wednesday.
The collision occurred just after 10 p.m. near Las Vegas and Silverado Ranch boulevards. According to Metro Police, a dark-colored SUV or sedan struck a 55-year-old Michele Digregorio while she was walking across Las Vegas Boulevard.
The driver did not stop or return to the scene. Digregorio was taken to UMC with life-threatening injuries.
A stroller holding a dog was also involved in the crash. Thursday, FOX5 learned the dog is OK, and is being cared for by rescue group “Street Dogz.”
Street Dogz Homeless Outreach Coordinator Janice Tucker identified the dog as 17-year-old “Krissy.”
“She’s just the sweetest. Every time I come, she gets in that toy bag and plays,” Tucker said. “She loves squeaky toys.”
She said the non-profit has been assisting Digregorio and Krissy for years, dropping off food and other supplies.
“We just help them to help their dogs, because we don’t want them to lose their dogs, they love them,” Tucker explained. “This is all she has. She’s with this dog 24 hours a day and just loves her so much.”
Tucker said she was heartbroken to hear Digregorio was the victim of Wednesday’s crash. She said it is no accident that her four-legged-friend is OK.
“Before it hit her, she got the stroller and she pushed it out of the way so Krissy wouldn’t get hurt. So it’s a miracle that Krissy’s here,” Tucker said.
For now, Tucker will take care of Krissy herself while she waits for an update on Digregorio’s condition.
