Fans celebrated inside and outside T-Mobile Arena, known as the Fortress, as the Knights defeated the Avalanche. Thousands of fans filled the plaza outside the arena to cheer on the team.
GAME RECAP: Vegas Golden Knights Stanley Cup Final bound after defeating Avalanche
A quick goal by the Knights set the tone early. Once the game ended, fans erupted with cheers, chants and brooms to symbolize sweeping the Avalanche.
“I feel phenomenal. When we went to the conference finals against Colorado, they thought they were going to a lot tougher than we thought, especially without our captain for the first two games. Man this team proved me wrong,” Jonathan Ellers said.
The Knights swept the President’s Trophy winners.
“Over the moon with that sweep with the President’s Trophy winners. Let’s go baby! Nobody had us in this series at all, let’s go!” Kyle Hoffman said.
“The energy is absolutely incredible and it’s so great that we swept,” Jenna Nye said.
Michael VanVliet said the team’s resilience stood out.
“I just love the way they have grit. Everyone was going crazy when we went down 3-0. We don’t give up on this team. Mark Stone coming back? Huge! He controls the locker room so huge,” VanVliet said.
Cyndi Mannillo said the team’s community connection makes them special.
“It’s how they’ve come together, being our first real team. After the events that happened our inaugural year and the way they just show love in the community, how can you not love the golden knights?” Mannillo said.
The Golden Knights’ inaugural season in 2017-2018 began shortly after the Oct. 1, 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas. The team reached the Stanley Cup Final that season.
Young fans Beckett and Nolan Bernardo said they have followed the team since the beginning.
“I feel so lucky because Vegas was made the year I was born,” Beckett Bernardo said.
“I like them because my friend’s dad is cousins with Mark Stone and I like them because my favorite player is William Karlsson,” Nolan Bernardo said.
Jay Bernardo said the timing was perfect.
“It’s my birthday today so it would be a great birthday present if they could take out the broom and sweep them,” Jay Bernardo said.
