LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A head-on, wrong-way crash in the southeast valley has hospitalized two drivers with significant injuries Tuesday evening.
The crash occurred at approximately 5:27 p.m. on East Sunset Road, east of South Pine Street, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
At the time of the crash, police say a 2020 GMC Terrain was traveling westbound on Sunset Road in the left of three travel lanes when it veered to the left and struck the center median. The GMC then traveled westbound in the eastbound lanes and struck a 2010 Honda Accord traveling in the left lane.
The 39-year-old female driver of the GMC sustained life-threatening injuries, and the 29-year-old female driver of the Honda sustained serious injuries. Both drivers were transported to Sunrise Hospital.
Evidence at the scene, witness statements and video surveillance were used in the investigation, though the reason the GMC veered into oncoming traffic remains unknown, according to police.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
