LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Las Vegas Valley nonprofit hosted a party with a purpose to support low-income seniors.

The nonprofit, Nevada HAND, hosted a block party at Fergusons downtown to help raise money for its food pantry. The block party featured music, lawn games, drinks, and the opportunity for party-goers to donate and help the nonprofit “Pack the Pantries.”

Nevada HAND supports low-income seniors through its food pantry and by helping them afford their monthly necessities like utility bills, medication and transportation.

“We actually designed the food pantries in a way where they come with a lot of dignity, and they’re able to kind of order food,” said Audra Hamernik, president and CEO of Nevada HAND. “And we do that on purpose because they can sit down, have a cup of coffee, and get to know their neighbors. It’s kind of a social thing, and it’s kind of fun while we get their food for them that we can hand to them and they can take back to their apartments.”

Money raised from the block party fundraiser directly supports the food pantry and the seniors who rely on it.
