CCSD Police receive k in grant funds to launch Traffic Safety Campaign

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — After over 100 students were struck by vehicles this school year, the Clark County School District Police Department is taking action to reduce student injuries.

According to CCSD Police, a Joining Forces School Zone Traffic Safety Campaign will take place from Dec. 1 to Dec. 5. The Nevada Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) has awarded the department $10,000 in grant funds for the traffic safety initiative.

Officers will use Nevada OTS funds to work overtime to enhance enforcement in areas where unsafe driving habits are common and pose a danger to students.

Officials report that during the 2025-2026 school year, more than 180 students have been hit by a car while traveling to and from school, which has resulted in at least four deaths.

CCSD Police say distraction, speeding, and impaired driving are the main factors that have led to critical and deadly crashes on Nevada roadways.

With the help of the campaign, CCDSPD says it’s on a mission to achieve Zero Fatalities on Nevada roadways.

CCSD Police recommend drivers reduce these driving behaviors to save lives.

  • Distraction: Stay off your phone and avoid any activity that diverts your eyes or attention on the road.
  • Speeding: Higher speeds mean longer stopping distances and more severe crashes.
  • Impaired Driving: Never drive under the influence. If you’ve been drinking or using drugs, find a safe, sober ride home.
