LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Three Square is teaming up with the Veterans Affairs Southern Nevada Medical Center for a food distribution event aimed at helping those in need within the veteran community.
The organization donated approximately 30,000 pounds of food for the event, held Friday morning at the Southern Nevada Medical Center in North Las Vegas.
This marks the third consecutive month the two groups have collaborated on the food distribution initiative, which has expanded to include both drive-through and walk-up options for participants.
“The last time that we did, we did aim for 1,000 households, and we ended up reaching over 1,100,” said Monica McGaha, nutrition program coordinator for VA Southern Nevada. “We are working on trying to make sure the word gets out, especially for our veteran population. Expanding it to a drive-through and walk-up has been helpful too, because as you can see, they’re pretty heavy bags.”
Volunteers from both organizations distributed the food to eligible participants during the morning giveaway. The substantial amount of food available underscores the significant need within the community for nutritional support programs.
Three Square, Nevada’s only statewide food bank, works year-round to address food insecurity. The partnership with the VA demonstrates the collaborative efforts being made across nonprofits and government agencies to serve vulnerable populations in Southern Nevada.
