LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A 71-year-old moped rider was critically injured in a southeast valley crash Friday afternoon, police say.
The collision occurred at approximately 2:22 p.m. on South Eastern Avenue, south of East Maule Avenue, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.
Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicate a 2012 Honda Civic was stopped facing westbound in the private drive on East Sunset Road, Sunset Park. A 2024 Zhejiang Senling moped traveled northbound on South Eastern Avenue, approaching the Sunset Park exit.
The crash occurred when the Honda began a left turn into the path of the approaching moped. The moped attempted to brake but was unsuccessful and struck the left front of the Honda. The collision ejected the moped rider as the moped overturned.
Emergency medical personnel transported the rider to Sunrise Hospital’s Trauma Center. Hospital personnel admitted the rider for continued life-saving care.
The Honda driver remained at the scene of the collision and was not impaired or injured, police say.
The collision remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section.
