LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Two arrest reports obtained by FOX5 paint a clear picture of the moments that led to a woman pointing a gun at two Nevada Highway Patrol troopers.
According to the report, Trooper Duarte saw a silver Audi SUV run a red light to make a left turn from Saint Rose Parkway to I-15 south, nearly causing a collision.
Trooper Duarte stopped the 51-year-old driver, identified as Barbara Christine Lu. The report says Lu refused to comply with the officers. At that time, Trooper Duarte called for backup.
Trooper Ducut arrived on scene to assist. The trooper tried to break the driver’s window with the use of a device, which failed, the arrest report stated.

As Trooper Ducut turned to Duarte to ask if he could break the window, Lu pulled out a gun and was pointing it at the troopers. The report said Trooper Ducut fired at Lu once. The bullet struck the driver’s side window and exited through the windshield.
According to the report, Lu was not struck by the bullet. She did sustain injuries to her neck from shards of broken glass.
Lu was transported to the hospital and booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
Lu faces several charges, including assault with a deadly weapon on a protected person, resisting a public officer with a firearm, DUI, and a driver failing to obey traffic lights.
