LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Two women will serve jail time for their roles in a high-speed police chase that resulted in the death of a 101-year-old World War II veteran nearly three years ago.
In March 2023, Lorraine Alvarado and Kassandra Alvarez allegedly stole merchandise from a store, then carjacked a vehicle before leading police on a pursuit. The chase ended with a deadly crash in Henderson near the intersection of Sunset Road and Stephanie Street.
Herbert Muskin, a retired Army officer, died weeks after as a result of the crash, police said.
Under a plea agreement, Alvarez was sentenced to up to 30 years in prison, and Alvarado was sentenced to up to 40 years in prison. The pair was granted a credit of 1,086 days served.

Alvarez was facing multiple felony charges, including conspiracy to commit robbery with the use of a deadly weapon, reckless driving resulting in substantial bodily harm, and murder with the use of a deadly weapon, according to court documents. Alvarado was facing charges, including conspiracy to commit robbery with the use of a deadly weapon, resisting a public officer, and attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon, just to name a few.
Muskin’s granddaughter joined the courtroom virtually on Wednesday to share a few words in his honor.
“He still lives on in my heart and my family’s hearts, too. He’ll never be forgotten. I hope to achieve even half of what he did in his lifetime. He will always be my biggest inspiration and role model,” said Muskin’s granddaughter while reading her essay to the court.
