LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A tropical toucan that was spotted in northwest Las Vegas over the past several months has finally been captured.
The bird, dubbed “Sam Toucan” by residents, flew into a local homeowner’s garage on Wednesday near Lone Mountain Road and Fort Apache Drive.
The brightly colored bird, which is not native to the Nevada desert, had been the subject of dozens of sightings throughout the northwest part of the city in recent months.

Residents had reported spotting the unusual visitor perched on rooftops, in trees, and flying through neighborhoods, sparking curiosity and concern among locals.
Wildlife officials and concerned residents had been attempting to capture the toucan since the first sightings were reported, but the agile bird managed to stay just out of reach until Wednesday.
According to initial reports, the toucan appears to be skinny, but overall healthy.
The homeowner who found the bird immediately contacted local wildlife authorities, who are now assessing the toucan’s condition and working to provide appropriate care.
