LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A mobile medical clinic operated by The Center has been on the road since June, offering a range of health services to communities across Nevada.
Community health worker Marissa Dacken said the unit — nicknamed “Mobilina” — provides rapid HIV and hepatitis C testing, gender-affirming care, hormone replacement therapy, STI panels, and linkage to recovery services.
Services available on the mobile unit
“We do gender-affirming care, HRT services, which is something that a lot of people don’t know that we do, and we know it’s a big need in the state,” Dacken said. “Linkage to care, we can connect you to recovery services.”
The clinic also offers comprehensive STI testing, including screening for chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis, as well as naloxone for drug overdose response.
Reaching rural Nevada
While The Center primarily serves the LGBTQ community, the mobile clinic is open to anyone who needs care. Dacken said the unit travels to Reno, Pahrump, Mesquite, Indian Springs and Moapa, in addition to locations throughout Las Vegas.
“We went to Reno in January. We’re going to go again in April and then every month we go to Pahrump, Mesquite, Indian Springs, Moapa, and then, of course, all around Vegas,” Dacken said. “We’re trying to get all over Nevada, so there’s really no limits for us.”
Dacken said the mobile setting offers patients a sense of privacy. “The nice thing about having our mobile unit is it feels a little more private in here and we can shut the door and we can sit with them and speak one-on-one and let them know this is a safe space,” she said.
Upcoming schedule
The unit currently deploys about six times a month. Next week, the clinic is scheduled to travel to Mesquite on Monday, March 9, Indian Springs on Wednesday, March 11, and return to Las Vegas on Friday, March 13 at the Consulate of El Salvador on Nellis Boulevard.
