LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Rep. Dina Titus (D-NV) announced a $980,000 federal grant Tuesday for Boulder City to upgrade its wastewater treatment infrastructure.
The city will use the funding to upgrade its wastewater treatment plant, update and renovate treatment basins, and replace aging canal liners. The current facility treats more than one million gallons of water per day.
The grant is the first step in Boulder City’s plans to return treated water to Lake Mead and generate credits for future homes in the region, according to a statement from Titus’s office. Mayor Joe Hardy and other city officials joined Titus to discuss the funding Tuesday.
Under current law, Boulder City cannot build additional homes or businesses without the ability to treat and recycle wastewater. City officials said upgrades to the plant could allow it to process more than its current daily output, improving water efficiency and supporting future development.
